ASK US ANYTHING!
We’ve probably heard it all!
We tend to get asked the same questions regarding pets over and over again by clients. I have compiled them into a list of FAQs below. If you still have any questions about Sittin’ Pretty, or pets in general, we would be more than happy to assist you to the best of our knowledge. But remember, we are not veterinarians.
WILL SHAVING MY SHORT HAIRED OR DOUBLE COATED DOG STOP IT FROM SHEDDING?
The answer is no. It will only delay it, and the hairs will be fine, pointy hair splinters instead. There is also a possibility of the fur not growing back properly due to damage to the hair follicles. The best way to battle shedding, is with a deshed/brushing bath combination on a regular basis.
HOW YOUNG CAN MY PUPPY BE TO START THE GROOMING PROCESS?
After the first round of parvo shots we accept puppies. Usually no younger than six weeks. The earlier they are introduced to the grooming process the better!
HOW MUCH ARE YOUR SERVICES?
Our prices are base prices only. Each dog is different, so total cost is based on size, temperament, coat condition, and the presence of any parasites. Any doodle mix will usually be extra, due to the mix of genes and the vast differences in each one.
MY DOG IS PREGNANT OR IN HEAT, CAN SHE STILL BE GROOMED?
No later than two weeks until puppies are due. While pregnant, grooming can be stressful and any later than two weeks prior can cause the mother to go into preterm labor. A female in season can still visit the groomer, although we can’t promise she will stay clean after due to the discharge.
HOW LONG AFTER SURGERY CAN I HAVE MY PET BATHED?
No earlier than 10-14 days or after any stitches or staples are removed.
DO YOU CHECK THE ANAL GLANDS?
Yes but we only check EXTERNALLY. If we feel there may be an issue, we will suggest you see a vet.
CAN YOU GET THE NAILS AS SHORT AS POSSIBLE?
The answer is yes, although one dogs short as possible may be longer than another’s. This is due to the “quick” inside the nail. The only way to get them to recede back or actually get shorter over time, is to bring your dog in for regular routine nail trims.
